Minutes of the Meeting of the 2000 Electoral College

Proceedings of Electors of President and Vice-President of the United States of America, in and for the State of Maryland.

At 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 18, 2000, the Electors of President and Vice-President of the United States of America, in and for the State of Maryland, assembled in the State House in Annapolis.

There were present Mary Ann E. Love, Ina Taylor, Howard Friedman, Beatrice P. Tignor, Mary Butler Murphy, Gregory Pecoraro, Clarence W. Blount, Gene W. Counihan, Mary Jo Neville and Thomas V. Mike Miller.

Thomas V. Mike Miller was designated President and Gregory Pecoraro was designated Secretary.

The following proclamation, in sextuplicate, was received from Governor Parris N. Glendening of Maryland.

Certificate of Ascertainment of the Electors of President and Vice-President of the United States

I, Parris N. Glendening, Governor of the State of Maryland, do hereby declare, pursuant to Article 41, Section 2-405 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, that at the General Election held in the State on Tuesday, the 7th day of November 2000, the following named persons were elected to the office of Electors of President and Vice-President of the United States:

  • Howard Friedman
  • Beatrice P. Tignor
  • Mary Butler Murphy
  • Gregory Pecoraro
  • Clarence W. Blount
  • Gene W. Counihan
  • Mary Jo Neville
  • Thomas V. Mike Miller

AND FURTHER that the following is a result of the canvass made and certified by the State Board of Canvassers pursuant to law, showing the whole number of votes cast at the election for each candidate for President of the United States or each pair of candidates for President and Vice-President of the United States, the vote for each such candidate or pair being deemed a vote for the Presidential Electors nominated by the candidate or party pursuant to Article 33, Section 8-503, Annotated Code of Maryland.

The Democratic Party Electors were Mary Ann E. Love, Ina Taylor, Howard Friedman, Beatrice P. Tignor, Mary Butler Murphy, Gregory Pecoraro, Clarence W. Blount, Gene W. Counihan, Mary Jo Neville, and Thomas V. Mike Miller. The Democratic Party candidates for President and Vice-President, Al Gore and Joe Lieberman, received One Million One Hundred Forty-Three Thousand Eight Hundred Eighty-Eight (1,143,888) votes.

The Republican Party Electors were Mitzi Perdue, J. Ronald Etzel, Michael Deets, Ronald Josephson, Joseph Crawford, Vincent Dellaposta, Richard Fairbanks, Rosanne Szabados, Richard Hug, and H. Victoria Nelson. The Republican Party candidates for President and Vice-President, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, received Eight Hundred Thirteen Thousand Seven Hundred Twenty-Four (813,724) votes.

The Libertarian Party Electors were Steve Boone, Andrew Chawla, Robert Creager, Lorenzo Gaztanaga, Susan Gaztanaga, Robert Glaser, Gwendolyn Jones, Jack Jones, Simon Lancaster, and Nick Sarwark. The Libertarian Party candidates for President and Vice-President, Harry Browne and Art Olivier, received Five Thousand Three Hundred Ten (5,310) votes.

The Reform Party Electors were Craig P. Drohan, Sonja Jane Jasper, Elizabeth A. Christman, Julie C. Slunt, Anna Anderson, Julie A. LaJoie, William Julius Casagranda, Herman E. Schmidt, Robert B. Bowes, and George T. Serbinoff. The Reform Party candidates for President and Vice-President, Pat Buchanan and Ezola Foster, received Four Thousand Two Hundred Forty-Seven (4,247) votes.

The Green Party Electors were Mary Kathleen Bennett, Ralph Gregory Peace, Christine Schmitthenner, Diane K. McDaniel, Kenneth C. Eidel, Mary Chesnut, Joseph H. Flynn, Victor Pleskacz, Alison Gibbons, and Joyce Munns. The Green Party candidates for President and Vice-President, Ralph Nader and Winona LaDuke, received Fifty-Three Thousand Seven Hundred Sixty-Three (53,763) votes.

The Constitution Party Electors were Brian D. Saunders, Linda Easton-Saunders, Steven Jerome Krukar, Dorothy Elizabeth Zinkand, William Collier Zinkand, Benjamin Paultney Boyce, Elizabeth Shavett Boyce, Lila A. Heitzler, Deborah Mackall, and John Lofton. The Constitution Party candidates for President and Vice-President, Howard Phillips and J. Curtis Frazier, received Nine Hundred Seventeen (917) votes.

Write-In candidates for President received the following votes: Mike K. Brown received One (1) vote; Isabell Masters received Zero (0) votes; John Hagelin received One Hundred Twenty-Two (122) votes; Alonzo Crawford received One (1) vote; Earnest Lee Easton received One (1) vote; Forrest C. LaBelle received One (1) vote; Rachelle OneFamily Miller received Three (3) votes; Raj Alison Officewala received Three (3) votes; Daniel J. Pearlman received One (1) vote; Jeffrey Peters received Two (2) votes; Sylvester J. Pettway received Zero (0) votes; Joe Schriner received Three (3) votes; Michael F. Sterba received Zero (0) votes; and Gloria Dawn Strickland received Zero (0) votes.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Parris N. Glendening, Governor of Maryland, in compliance with the authority and direction contained in law, do by this my proclamation hereby declare and proclaim that the above named persons are the duly elected Electors of President and Vice-President of the United States for the State of Maryland.

GIVEN under my hand and the Great Seal of the State of Maryland, Done at the City of Annapolis, this 18th day of December, in the Year of Our Lord, Two Thousand:

WE, the undersigned, Mary Ann E. Love, Ina Taylor, Howard Friedman, Beatrice P. Tignor, Mary Butler Murphy, Gregory Pecoraro, Clarence W. Blount, Gene W. Counihan, Mary Jo Neville, and Thomas V. Mike Miller, being Electors of President and Vice-President of the United States of America for the respective terms beginning on the 18th day of December, 2000, duly and legally appointed and qualified by and for the State of Maryland, as appears by the annexed certificate made and delivered to us by his excellency, Honorable Parris N. Glendening, the Executive of said State, having met pursuant to the provisions of law, in the State House at Annapolis, in said State of Maryland, on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December, 2000, being the 18th day of said month, do hereby certify that after being so assembled and duly organized, we proceeded to vote by ballot and balloted first for President of the United States and then for Vice-President of the United States by distinct ballots and that the following are two distinct lists, one of the votes for President and the other of the votes for Vice President, so cast as aforesaid:

Mary Ann E. Love, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America;

Ina Taylor, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America;

Howard Friedman, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America;

Mary Butler Murphy, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America;

Gregory Pecoraro, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America;

Clarence W. Blount, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America;

Gene W. Counihan, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America;

Mary Jo Neville, cast one vote for Al Gore for President of the United States of America and

RESULT: Al Gore 10 VOTES
